THE NOMBREX TEAM..

THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF NOMBREX WAS BELIEVED TO BE A MR SCARSDALE OR SIMILAR NAME

TOM PAWLEY  FROM COLATON RALEIGH WAS THE RATHER ECCENTRIC BUT BRILLIANT CHIEF ENGINEER

MR JOYCE WAS THE GENERAL MANAGER WHO WAS
PREVIOUSLY WITH SIFAM  AT TORBAY.....SIFAM SUPPLIED SOME OF THE PANEL METERS FOR
NOMBREX POWER SUPPLIES AND FREQUENCY METERS.

MY GOOD FRIEND DAVE JACQUES WORKED FOR NOMBREX FROM AUGUST 1969 UNTIL ITS MOVE TO
NEWTON ABBOT IN JULY 1972 AS AN ELECTRONICS ENGINEER, CALIBRATING AND FAULT
FINDING ON MOST OF THE RANGE .. HE HAS SUPPLIED MOST OF THE INFORMATION I HAVE,
THERE IS LIKELY SOME MORE DETAILS TO COME BUT HE SAYS HIS BRAIN IS NOT WORKING
AS WELL AS IT USED TO..PERSONALLY I THINK THE MEMORY PROBLEMS ARE DUE TO
EXCESSIVE INTAKE OF PLJ CORDIAL...!! :-)

LYNN WEST FROM LYMPSTONE WAS A LONG TIME ASSEMBLY WORKER

APPARENTLY THERE FROM DAY 1 UNTIL THE MOVE IN 1972..

OTHER ASSEMBLY WORKERS WERE FRANKIE (MCLEOD), AND A SUMMER JOB WORKER BEFORE UNI
WAS
CLARE PORTMAN NOW A FAMOUS AUTHOR/NOVELIST.  CLAIRE MORAL

A MR MINOR WAS THE STORE MAN

STEVE LUGGER FROM EXMOUTH WAS A
TRAINEE ENGINEER  ALONG WITH

JIM (JIMBO) FROM BUDLEIGH SALTERTON JIM GOODING ??

ALL THE CASES WHICH RANGED FROM GREY TO DARK BLUE PAINT FINISH WERE CONVENIENTLY  MADE
NEXT DOOR AT A SHEET METAL FACTORY (the white building in the picture).THE
QUALITY OF THE CASES APPARENTLY LEFT SOMETHING TO BE DESIRED WITH SEVERAL
BATCHES BEING REJECTED BY THE DEMANDING GERMAN NORDMENDE COMPANY WHO HAD SEVERAL
CUSTOMISED FRONT PANELS FITTED TO THE STANDARD RANGE SIG GENERATORS AND SOLD
THEM AS PART OF THE NORDMENDE  TEST EQUIPMENT RANGE ...

THE FACTORY
HAD THEIR OWN  PLASTIC MOULDING SECTION AND MADE ALL THEIR OWN SCALES AND KNOBS
ON SITE, THE LINES ON THE POINTERS WERE ALL STUCK ON THE REVERSE SIDE OF THE
SCALES BY HAND AND NOT ALWAYS SYMETRICALLY... THE PLASTICS SECTION WAS ALSO USED
TO PRODUCE THE SLIDE RULES AND WERE THE INSPIRATION FOR THE NOMBREX FORD POP
PLASTIC FRONT END..

WHEN NOMBREX HAD A REBIRTH TO NOMBREX 1969  IN 1969....A MR NEWMAN FROM
TORQUAY WAS AT THE HELM..HE WAS THE ARCHITECT OF THE MOVE TO AN INDUSTRIAL
ESTATE NEAR DECOY IN  NEWTON ABBOT IN 1972 .. I HAVE NO DETAILS OF WHAT HAPPENED
TO NOMBREX IN NEWTON ABBOT.. THEY SEEMED TO DISAPPEAR VERY QUICKLY WITH NO
ADVERTISING APPEARING WITH THEIR NEW ADDRESS THAT I HAVE SEEN..

Hi,

Whilst looking on ebay this afternoon for some cheap audio
generators I came across a NOMBREX unit. Fascinated by a brand that ceased
before my 1972 "manufacture date", I found your website, and did some
digging around and found these:

http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/44908/pages/7902/page.pdf

What is slightly bizarre is they went in Liq. at the same
time as "Fi-cord", I used to have an ancient fi-cord tape-player when
I was about 11/12.

The following (whilst a little sad) may well be connected
(daughter?), there does seem to be a few Scarisbricks in that area.
